hey there 👋

I'm Joe.

By day I'm a systems analyst at DH Pace in Olathe, building the internal apps people actually use to get their work done. Approvals, forms, integrations, and the database holding it all together.

The rest of the time I'm writing songs, playing ball, organizing a volleyball club, or messing with my Home Assistant setup. Former college athlete, Overland Park local.

Right now

  • →Growing PaceX, the platform behind 40+ of DH Pace's internal apps
  • →Putting out my debut album, Letters to a Ghost, as jspeaker
  • →Running KC Social Volleyball, free sand volleyball in KC
  • →Starting a YouTube channel with my roommates

  • I own PaceX, our Oracle APEX platform. It's grown to 40+ apps used by about 300 people. It started as a bunch of one-off tools, so I pulled them into one hub with shared templates. New apps now start from something that already works.
  • Most of my week is turning "here's how we do it now" (usually a spreadsheet and a lot of email) into an actual app with approvals, notifications, file uploads and the right people seeing the right stuff.
  • The logic lives in PL/SQL and ORDS REST APIs. Newer front ends are React and TypeScript.
  • I build the integrations between our systems in Oracle Integration Cloud so nobody has to retype data from one place into another.
  • Set up our GitHub Actions deploys and a release process with QA. When something breaks in production, I'm usually the one digging in.

Business Analyst, Support

Apr 2024 – Nov 2024

Started on the support team and ended up building the first version of PaceX: forms and small apps in APEX, built by sitting with the people who'd use them. HTML, CSS and JavaScript up front, PL/SQL underneath.

Playfair Data

Jun – Aug 2023

Data Engineering Intern · Overland Park, KS

Spent the summer on the backend of a Google Analytics 4 dashboard. The GA4 API had plenty of limits, so I got very familiar with its docs. I wrote SQL to shape raw events into something Tableau could use, built Tableau Prep and Alteryx flows for a white-label dataset, and threw together a Flask portal on Tableau's REST API in the last few weeks.

Academic Support Specialist

May – Aug 2021

Graded data analysis projects and beta tested new courses before students saw them.

Kind wordsfrom people I've worked with

Joe was an intern on my Data Engineering team at Playfair Data - he tackled the backend data of our Google Analytics 4 dashboard. Though the GA4 API threw many limitations our way, Joe was very flexible and dove right into the GA4 data and documentation to understand the API. His strength in technical aptitude can really be seen in his work and his ability to grasp new tools and projects very quickly. During his time with us, he learned Tableau Prep and even spent some time in Google Big Query. Overall, it was a pleasure to have Joe on our team!

Ariana Cukier, MSHI · Associate Director, Data Engineering, Playfair Data

Joe is super adaptable and dedicated to furthering his knowledge and growth. I enjoyed working with Joe in Podium Education's support and tutoring chatbot for roughly two years. He helped thousands of students, mainly in Excel, Tableau, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. He was knowledgeable in every instance and made a huge impact.

I genuinely admire Joe's adaptability. During his time at Podium Education, the curriculum and protocols underwent many phases, and he quickly adjusted to those changing circumstances. He often wanted to go the extra mile and learn new material. Joe is a solid asset to any team.
